What to do today, Monday May 18th

Today, while I'm at district meetings, you will continue to work on your Video Challenge 5000 assignment in your groups.
You will not have access to my office, headphones, or any of the cameras today, due to the incident that transpired with my last substitute.
I may be able to return to class sometime during 6th period, so you can access that equipment then, if needed.
Today you could be looking for any sound effects or special effects generated in Soundtrack Pro or Live Type, that could be used in your Short Film. You will also will be required to add a Title to your short film at the beginning, so someone in your group will need to do that as well.
Video 2 students who are in Video 3. I will see you all at the studio today at 2:45pm. Be there.
NO ONE IS ALLOWED IN MY OFFICE TODAY, FOR ANY REASON AT ALL. IF YOU ARE RETURNING A CAMERA, GIVE IT TO THE SUB SO THAT THEY CAN PUT IT IN MY OFFICE.

Video Challenge 5000

Your group has a mission.
The mission before you is to produce a short film. Your film can be anything appropriate to be shown in school.
Everyone in your group will receive the same final grade for this project. Teamwork is essential.
Your Short Film will be no longer than 90 seconds, and no shorter than 1 minute.
You're Short Film will have a soundtrack, either made by you, or be something from your iTunes collection (or mine). Make sure that your soundtrack is fitting of the moods you portray in your Short Film. You can have more than 1 song in your Short Film.
Your soundtrack must be NORMALIZED with the NAT SOUND in your Short Film.
Today you will begin Pre-Production on your Short Film. Brainstorm your idea in your designated group. Figure out which moods you'll use and start to plan a visual strategy to effectively tell your narrative.
Your requirements for this assignment are as follows:
1. 1 minute - 90 seconds. No more. No less.
2. It must include an appropriate soundtrack.
3. There must be at least 2 insert shots.
4. You'll need great continuity from one shot to the next. NO JUMP CUTS!!!!!
5. Use proper framing composition and camera angles. (Think 'Rule of Thirds')
6. You must stick to your storyboard. Points will be deducted if your Short Film deviates from your final storyboard.
7. Teamwork will also be a big portion of your final grade.
8. You will turn in one Quicktime per group with normalized sound.

Your Final Project will be turned in by the end of class next Tuesday.

What to do Today 5-7

Today I am at a District meeting at the Shoreline Center, and while you have a substitute, you are required to begin Brainstorming and Storyboarding for your Film Festival Project.
I will be checking off BOTH of these first thing on Monday, so do NOT delay on this.
Brainstorming - Grab a sheet of blank white paper on top of my scanner and bubble chart the important information regarding your project. (Think of Who, What, When, Where, Why and How?) What is the Visual Narrative, or Theme of your project.
Storyboard - You are required to fill out 20 Squares on your storyboard sheet, also located on top of the scanner.
Have BOTH of these sheets filled out and ready to grade on Monday.
Your sub is going to be keeping you on task today and I want to get a good report on your progress from him. If I see otherwise, well, I just don't want to say.

THE ONLY STUDENTS WHO CAN GO OUT TO SHOOT TODAY FOR THE VIDEO BULLETINS ARE:
MIRABELLE BLECH
JACOB FOLTZ
MATT RICE
EFE OZMAN

THE SUBSTITUTE WILL ONLY ALLOW THESE 4 STUDENTS INTO MY OFFICE, WHICH WILL REMAIN LOCKED UNTIL I HAVE MY STOLEN CAMERA RETURNED.
I DON'T CARE IF YOU NEED HEADPHONES, AND I DON'T CARE IF YOU NEED TO CHECK OUT A CAMERA. UNLESS YOU'RE ONE OF THE ABOVE MENTIONED STUDENTS, YOU CANNOT DO SO TODAY!!!

What to do Tuesday, April 28th

So, I hate being sick, but at least it's not the Swine Flu......I hope!
Today you will NOT be allowed to play video games. Sorry, but that was yesterday, and today is time to get back to work.
If you have not finished your Movie Trailer project, you should be working on that during class today. You will have until Thursday to turn it in now.
If you have finished your Movie Trailer, now is the time to really hunker down and make your final decisions on what your 'Film Festival Project' will be, and what it will look like.
NOTE: I WILL KNOW WHO IS WORKING TODAY AND WHO IS NOT. DO NOT BE SOMEONE WHO IS CAUGHT NOT WORKING. YOU WILL BE GIVEN AN ASSIGNMENT THAT YOU WILL NOT LIKE!!!
That being said, you are to brainstorm and begin storyboarding your idea for you Film Festival Entry.
Remember that your entry can be submitted to any legitimate Film Festival of your choosing. It can be a Music Video, Short Film, Silent Film, Documentary, Mockumentary, Commercial, or a PSA.
As long as the total amount of edited (quality) production equals 1 minute, and is submitted by the due date of that film festival, you will meet the basic requirements for this final individual project.
I will be checking off and grading brainstorming sheets of bubble charts or hand written notes, and to see that you've begun storyboarding, at the BEGINNING OF CLASS ON THURSDAY!!!!
If you are still working on your Movie Trailer, this is a homework assignment for you.
Get to work! Be happy! Make me proud!

What to do today, 4-27

Congratulations to those who have turned in their project already! This is the one and only day this year that I'm allowing you to play video games during class time.
THIS IS ONLY FOR THOSE WHO HAVE COMPLETED THEIR PROJECT!!!
You should be wearing headphones while playing so as not to disturb those who are still working hard.
Enjoy!
Be good to your substitute.
No one is allowed to check out cameras today.
